ais announces Smart Bolt R&D collaboration with BCRRE at the University of Birmingham

We are delighted to announce our R&D collaboration with the world-class Birmingham Centre of Railway Research and Education (BCREE) at the University of Birmingham, which will see our pioneering Smart Bolt engaged in several research projects.

Over the coming year, research will be undertaken to test and verify the Smart Bolt in a safety critical railway application, as well as considering the economic feasibility of such.

Aside from MSc research projects, we are also working with Research Fellow Huayu Duan and his REPOINT project; an ambitious initiative focused on advancing rail track switching technologies.

Commenting on the collaboration, Huayu says: “Condition monitoring has always been a significant area of R&D in railway infrastructure. I look forward to conducting research and engaging in collaboration together with AIS, on the application of the Smart Bolt in railways.”

Anstee Indication Systems (ais) Managing Director, Craig Anstee, adds: “Our collaboration with BCRRE at the University of Birmingham is an important step forward for our commercial journey into the rail sector. We are looking forward to working with the team over the coming year to facilitate this R&D.”
